Meet the Team
The Magnetiscope began as Joseph Broadway’s personal project and quickly grew into something more. After its debut at Open Sauce 2025, we came together as a team of educators and creators, united by a shared mission and a belief that this was something worth building together. Each of us brings a unique perspective, but we’re connected by a passion for curiosity-driven learning, hands-on exploration, and the power of science to bring people together.
We believe that curiosity is for everyone, and that learning should be personal, tactile, and joyful. By building tools that make the invisible visible, we hope to inspire others to look closer, ask questions, and rediscover the wonder in the world around them.
Joseph Broadway
Founder & Lead Inventor
Joseph Broadway
Joseph Broadway is a NASA-trained flight controller, research engineer, science communicator, philosopher, and an explorer with a lifelong passion for understanding how the universe works and sharing that spark with others.
Blending rigorous engineering with intuitive curiosity, Joseph created the Magnetiscope as both a scientific instrument and a teaching tool: a way to make the invisible visible and bring magnetic fields to life in real time. His work is rooted in the belief that science is not just a body of knowledge but a way of seeing the world — hands-on, self-correcting, and alive with wonder.
Having worked in research labs, flight control rooms, and public science venues, he’s equally at home debugging code at 3am or leading laser shows for museum visitors. His projects often explore the boundary between sensing and meaning, whether thats mapping magnetic fields, tracing evolutionary echoes, or designing educational systems for the next generation.
Joseph believes science should be personal, accessible, and poetic. The Magnetiscope is his latest attepmt to share that vision with the world.
Tessa Brazda
Software Developer & Creative Collaborator
Tessa Brazda
Tessa Brazda is a web developer, software engineer, and longtime educator with a passion for building tools that bring learning to life. She helped develop the Magnetiscope’s software, built the project’s website, designed its visual identity, and co-led its public launch at Open Sauce 2025. She currently works as a developer at NASA and has an academic background in computer science and mathematics.
Driven by a deep curiosity about how people learn and interact with the world, Tessa blends technical problem-solving with creative thinking and a deep love of science communication. Her background as a tutor and artist has shaped her approach: kind, curious, and always grounded in the human experience. She believes that great tools don’t just work — they invite exploration, build confidence, and make space for joy. Through her work on Magnetiscope, she hopes to help others see the invisible, ask better questions, and feel empowered to learn by doing.
